Mayfield
Mayfield is a suburb on the northside of Cork City.
It is bounded by the Glen Vally River in the North, The Glen to the west, Glanmire to the east and Montenotte and the River Lee to the South.
It is famously the home of Manchester United and Ireland legend Roy Keane.

History & Heritage
Mayfield was originally called ‘Baile na mBocht’ or town of the poorly. This is because there was formerly a lepers colony in the area. It is unlikely that those living here had actual leprosy but none the less those with skin diseases were sent to live here.
It is believed that the name Mayfield came about when in the late 19th century an immigrant returning from America built a large mansion in the area and named it Mayfield house.
Attractions
Mayfield is home to the Cotton Ball Brewing Company including a brewpub which was founded in 1874. It is a great spot for craft beer aficionados or those who just want to try something different. They also have live music every weekend with genres mixed and matched to suit all tastes.
The Mayfield Art Centre is a unique arts space in the centre of Mayfield. They run lots of differnent exhibitions and training programmes in the area.
Glenamoy Park situtated in the centre of Mayfield is a lovely spot for a walk with your dog or little ones. There is also a fantastic playground in the park.
The Clayton Hotel Silver Springs hosts lots of events throughout the year in it’s large conferenence centre.

There is a a big sporting tradition in the Mayfield area. As well as being the home of Ireland Legend Roy Keane, retired Munster rugby player James Coughlan is also from the area.

The Complex facilities are made up of a Gym, Sports Hall, Astroturf pitches and a swimming pool. The complex is home to a series of different clubs including: Rebel Martial Arts, Mayfield Karate Club and Dolphin Swimming Club.
Mayfield GAA is based in lower mayfield with Riverview Fitness & Leisure Club based on their grounds.
Mayfield United AFC was founded in 1971 and field teams in all age groups.
