St. Finbarr’s National Hurling and Football Club has a long and proud history. In the early 1800’s, a team of men from the parish of St.Finbarr’s played hurling and were well known, far and wide, for their prowess on the field of play. In the early days the Parish stretched from Blackrock to the Bandon Road near the Viaduct and was the next Parish to Ballinora. In 1821 Blackrock became a Parish and in 1882 the Lough Parish was formed from the western side of the original St.Finbarr’s, hence the name St.Finbarr’s West Parish.
